Star Wars Care Package

Love is an action. We show people we love them through small and large acts of kindness, encouragement or care. Social distancing and stay-at-home orders make traditional acts of love seem difficult, but not impossible.

An active loving practice looks different for everyone. You may want to start small with encouraging texts or surprise food deliveries. Then, save some money and a few hours to put together a DIY care package to mail to someone you love.

Start with something personal

Find pictures of you and your loved one to print. Include them inside an envelope or frame them for an instant smile when they open the package. For artsy folks, put together a scrapbook with pictures, stickers and other decorations.

Add some essentials

Think about something this person always needs. Chapstick, hand sanitizer and lotion are some examples. Try including things that will be useful to them, that they would buy anyway. Sometimes, especially right now, it's nice to have your essentials delivered to your door.

Throw in their interests or passions

Consider buying merchandise from their favorite TV show or fandom. You can be creative without purchasing merchandise by drawing their favorite character or ironing prints onto clothing items. Or, buy them a book or journal they don't already have.

Feed them their favorite treats

Single-serving snacks of Hot Cheetos, Oreos or Hershey's Kisses are a good idea to add. If they're not into guilty pleasures, try fruit snacks, granola bars or trail mix. Whatever you include, be sure that it will survive the time it takes to mail the package to them!

Make the package look nice

Cardboard boxes aren't pretty, so add some color with tissue or wrapping paper on the inside. Monochromatic themes are a popular idea for care packages, or if you're the creative type, coordinate some of their favorite colors. Thinking about the appearance of the box is a great idea to show your loved one that you care.

When you've gathered all the materials you need, organize the package in a flat-rate box from the post office. Before you mail the box, slip in a note or card expressing your love. Think about times you've shared together, and let them know how much you appreciate them. Tell them you love them in your letter, and show them that love with the package you send.

My house, if you haven't gathered already, is a very geeky house. We love what we love, what we love we really love, and one of the things we love is Star Wars. We even have rules:

1. May 4th is National Star Wars Day no matter what the haters say.

2. The ‘first three' will forever refer to the original trilogy.

3. That being said, the first three will always be superior. Always.

4. Apart from meeting Qui-Gon Jinn, Episode 1 is basically useless.

5. My children can't watch Episodes 1-3 until they're old enough to hate Jar Jar Binks.

I thought it was only fitting to celebrate this year's May 4th with not only a marathon for myself, but a care package for my husband.

Step one: the drawing board

Depicting, of course, a battle from the original trilogy.

Step two: the menu

I found a lot of great food ideas on Pinterest, but not many of them were sendable, so this is what I decided on.

Step three: the shopping list

  • Edible Ewoks- teddy grahams
  • Han Rolos- mini rolos
  • Millenium Falcorn- popcorn
  • Jabba Jigglers- gummy worms
  • Boba-Q Jerky- barbecue beef jerky
  • Wookie Cookies- reese's stuffed peanut butter cookies
  • Star Wars gummies
  • Hand-made card with the most romantic dialog in movie history: 'I love you.' 'I know.'
  • Vader's Little Princess
  • Vader and Son
  • The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, the next of the expanded universe to prepare for the next trilogy ala Disney

Step four: Reese's Stuffed Peanut Butter Cookies

Wars

You read that correctly. Reese's. Stuffed. Peanut. Butter. Cookies. Wow. Just saying it makes my mouth water. They're absolutely phenomenal. AND they arrived safe and sound and still delicious, even though the Post Office sent our package to Germany and was delivered a week late.

You can find the recipe here. Sorry I don't have a picture.. my extras didn't last long enough to pose.

Step five: using the Force

My fully decorated box, Complete with Death Star, Millennium Falcon, X-Wing Fighters, and TIE Fighters. The bottom is decorated with my own Star Wars style crawling text, describing my and my husband's story. (Franklin Gothic demi is the official text btw, if you want to go with authenticity for your own Star Wars themed care package or party). I got the Star Wars font from dafont.com- my go to website for font ideas.

Star Wars Themed Care Package

Step six: the final touches

Star Wars Care Package Printable

Yes, that is the seal of the Galactic Empire with crossed lightsabers on the envelope. He's definitely relates more to the Sith than the Jedi. In his letter, though, I call him my eventual Sith Lord, because Anakin taught us that it's having children that leads you to the Dark Side 😉

Thank you all so much for reading! I hope you enjoy making your own Star Wars care package as much as I did. This has definitely been my favorite so far.

Watch Star Wars 6

May the Force be with you.
